You may be assuming that this is a photo of a musician who we did an interview with but it's really a photo of the person with a messy brain who runs Femme Riot. Hellooo my name is Shayla. Today is Mental Health Awareness Day so I wanted to share a bit about my life with you. I started Femme Riot in January as a passion/creative project to share music I was loving and to share stories of female artists and musicians who I feel deserve more recognition. I've had so many amazing opportunities come along with this little website like being able to cover festivals, work with inspiring and encouraging people, and I've made a lot of friends. As all of these amazing opportunities were happening (and are still happening), I was hit with a period of horrible anxiety and self-doubt. As with the majority of other creative people, I too never think my work is good enough and I'm constantly doubting everything I do. I had a great talk with my friend @daniellemurrayyoga last night when she was driving me to the airport and she asked me why I rarely post on this Instagram. I told her how I don’t want to come across as fake and I always doubt myself. She told me I just need to get past my self-doubt and post more because what I'm doing is worth sharing. So I guess this is the beginning of me posting more on here. Festivals, photography, and some of my crazy thoughts? This is a small step towards overcoming my self-doubt.
