From having her track ‘Groceries’ place seventh on Triple J’s coveted Hottest 100 competition to her recent collaboration with Basenji on their song ‘Nobody’s Home,’ Australian musician Mallrat has been off to a fantastic start this year. Mallrat is known for her relatable lyrics about her life experiences, layered tracks, and ability as both a songwriter and producer.

I had the opportunity to catch Mallrat’s set in Vancouver at Venue and she did not leave fans disappointed. Opening for DJ/producer gnash who shot to the top of charts with his song ‘i hate u, i love u,’ Mallrat performed for the crowd alongside DJ Denim. Many people in the crowd were adorned in glitter and I overheard many Australian accents from people who most likely came to the show to support this Australian musician and to feel a sense of “home” during her set.

Fan favorite’s ‘Groceries’ and ‘Texas’ were definite standouts and Mallrat was taken back by how many people knew her music, explaining that it was crazy to her that people know her music on the opposite side of the world.

Mallrat will be supporting Maggie Rogers on her European tour this month and more information about her tour dates can be found here. For a behind-the-scenes look at Mallrat, you can check out our interview or follow her on Instagram. A photo gallery of the night can be found below!
