I have been enamored with Cream with a K’s work for quite some time and I’m once again blown away with her latest track ‘5:35.’ The experimental rock track sounds slightly eerie while still managing to sound ethereal which is an art that Cream with a K has mastered. Cream with a K explains that the song takes the listener on a journey of what it’s like to experience the first train on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line.
It’s 5:35am, the first train of the day on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line. The experience of doing an all-nighter in Japan is truly unique and surreal. Between 18-20 years old I was a crazy party girl and the 5:35am train was part of my routine train home. In a wrap, this song is about riding the train home with drunken passed out salarymen, weekday clubbers and prostitutes.
You know how it feels to be heading home when the party is over? It’s late, you’re struggling to keep your eyes open, you don’t want to talk to anyone, and you want nothing more than to be at home in your bed. Your brain feels hyperfocused on all of the sounds that surround you and you feel numb to the world. ‘5:35’ flawlessly captures how this feels. As always, Cream with a K’s unique fuse of delicate vocals and an experimental production make the track feel otherworldly.
Cream with a K will be releasing her self-titled debut album early next year but in the meantime, you can keep up with her on Instagram and Facebook. If you are want to know more about her art, check out our chat with her here. ‘5:35’ is below!
