I have a love/hate relationship with nostalgia. The feeling of longing about special moments in the past is ever so present in my own life but as much as I want to go back in time and experience all of the special times I have experienced again, I can’t. Nostalgia is both heartbreaking and beautiful and I love a song that captures how this feels. DRÆMINGS flawlessly bottles up the feelings of nostalgia and gives us a perfect glittering gift of gold that is their latest track ‘Stay Up All Night (Dancing to the Knife).’
On the surface, the sparkly track emits an 80s vibe but if you look deeper into the lyrics, the song will hit you with a diamond knife in the heart. Lead singer Kimi Recor’s ethereal voice takes us through the heartbreaking journey of growing up and questioning the future. The uncertainty of the future is beautifully captured as Kimi repeats the lyrics “Everything will change / will it stay the same between us?”.
The band describes ‘Stay Up All Night (Dancing to the Knife)’ as a song about growing up and realizing you can’t hold onto being young forever.
“It’s that feeling of nostalgia, looking back on the most golden memories of your youth when you feel like the world is yours, appreciating those times, but also knowing that you’ll never have that again. Everything is always coated in gold when you look back on it.”
